Phil organised a very successful Ironman curry night at the Belash Tandoori in Penge. There were 29 Ironman finishers and supporters, past and present, with many wearing medals and t-shirts from various Ironman triathlons.
This is sure to become an annual celebration on the CPT calendarw, like the Marathon curry night held after the London Marathon.
- Tuesday 9th September - Tuesday 16th December
- Tuesday 13th January - Tuesday 31st March 09
- Tuesday 21st April - Tuesday 14th July 09
Friday swims will throughout the term and will continue during the school holidays.
Carl Ferri rode the Tour of the Black Mountains on Saturday and reports that its the most brutal sportive he's done to date! 115 miles over constant ups and downs. Carl would highly recommend the event to anyone as a tough challenge for the future. His official time was 6.49 and trip time 6.38.
Congratulations to Mark Thomas who came 8th overall and 1st male vet at the Thame Triathlon on Sunday.
There was a very disappointing turnout for Jon's running session on Saturday with only three members turning up for the hill session. Phil and Haydn had both completed Ironman Austria so what was your excuse for not being there?!
Both the 8am and 9am rides chose Box Hill this week although paths didn't actually cross. There was a good turnout for the 9am ride, with six of the riders proudly wearing their CPT cycle tops. Sarah was out for a six hour, hilly ride, so while the rest of us enjoyed a stop at the cafe she did the Zig Zag three times! Please remember that you must wear a helmet to join a CPT ride.

In addition to the usual weekly sessions, Jon will be coaching the following sessions:
Saturday 26th July - Run training session at Crystal Palace from 08:30-10:00, focussing on technique running up and down hills. Meet in top car park (where Wednesday night run usually meets) at 08:30 ready to start. Cost £4 each. All welcome.
Tuesday 29th July - in place of the usual swim session (which re-starts 5th August at Dulwich Prep), there will be a coached session at the Herne Hill cycle track from 18.30 - 20:00. All club members are welcome to turn up and give it a go. This will cost members an additional £4 to cover coaching (besides track entry which is £3). Please make sure you sign in at the office before cycling on the track. Helmets must be worn.
Here are the results so far for July. Apologies for the backlog but I didn't have computer access in Spain.
Congratulations to all the Ironman Austria competitors. There were some absolutely amazing times, despite the hailstorm and torrential rain. 22 competitors and 35 supporters. 21 finishers, the only DNF was because he was sent the wrong way by a marshal. Your names and times have been added to the Ironman Roll of Honour. Some of the times were very close so there must have been a few battles out there on the course. Congratulations also go to Ewan's wife, Ruth, who ran the last 10k with John P in the rain in her flip flops! You can read more about Fintan's Ironman experience on his website. Everyone appreciated the support on the course and its sounds as though a great time was had by all. If you haven't heard about David's celebrations and subsequent hangover, do ask him next time you see him! There will be some photos to follow as soon as I have time to load them up.
Congratulations to Mark Thomas who came third overall and first male vet in the last of the series of Tooting Bec Aquathlons (he says this was due to the absence of Jon Horsman on the night!). But congratulations also go to Jon, who was declared series winner and will be getting his gold medal in the post soon!
Unfortunately Bruce was knocked off his bike during the White Oak Triathlon by an impatient driver who was anxious to join the queue to a car boot sale, the incident has been reported to the police. Bruce was going well and was on schedule to knock a large chunk off last year's time. Despite the accident, which probably added nearly 10 minutes to his bike time, he was only a minute slower on the bike than last year!
Welcome to new members Anthony Bailey, Katie Crowe, Mitchell Dann and Marcel Garrad.
From the 13th August for 5 weeks to 10th September (every Wednesday) the London Region are offering triathlon swimming sessions between 18:00-19:30 for seniors. There is also a separate Junior session between 17:30 and 19:00.
Brockwell Lido are supporting these sessions by offering them for £2.00 for juniors and £3.60 for Adults.
You will need to pre-book with Jon Train to get these prices. If you fail to do so the sessions will cost £5.20 each.
The sessions will be lead by Level 3 triathlon coaches and represent great value. The Lido is 55 yards long and has been recently refurbished to a high standard and is only 20mins from Waterloo, so is well worth checking out.
The London Region are also hoping to hold an Aquathlon at the Lido before the end of the season so keep watching this space.
